Nonfiction Mini Review: No Fear by Tony Perkins

No Fear by Tony Perkins

This book heralds a new generation of Christians who are more than bold…they are fearless!

No Fear draws you inside the stories of young, ordinary believers who, despite incredible opposition, courageously stood up for God’s truth. Tony Perkins pairs each story with a biblical example, and gives practical ideas for building a “no fear” perspective every day.

Today, followers of Jesus Christ face more opposition to their beliefs than any generation in American history. Yet even in such a hostile cultural and political environment, it is an exciting time to stand firm in the faith.

You have been chosen to live in this important hour and reading these stories will inspire you to the same kind of courage.  So what are you waiting for?

Includes discussion questions after each chapter.

Review
One of the things I loved most about this book is that I found it encouraging and relate-able. The book focuses on the one thing that I truly believe all Christians deal with at one point in their life: Fear. It also touches on how to stand up and not let that Fear control our Christian lives. It was hard seeing the struggles that other Christians face in their lives, and it really made me think about the times where I have stood back and let fear control what I do.

Review:
I like how Sarah Arthur related romance to the way we should pursue God and how God loves us. I love the focus on how the way we date and who we date effects not only ourselves, but our family, friends, and our faith. There were a few things I didn't agree with that the Author made comments about in the book. I can see how she perceived that idea, but I personally do not believe that it was accurate, due to the fact I have seen otherwise. I think this book does a great job of outlining how our relationship with our potential spouse should look like and how we should view it ourselves.

Fiction Mini Review: Out of the Storm by Jody Hedlund

22464698Out of the Storm by Jody Hedlund

Having grown up in a lighthouse, loneliness is all Isabelle Thornton has ever known--and all, she assumes, she ever will know. But when her lightkeeper father rescues a young man from the lake, her sheltered world is turned upside down.

Bestselling author Jody Hedlund's Out of the Storm is her first ever novella and introduces readers to Beacons of Hope, a new series set in the 1800s amid the romance, history, and danger surrounding the Great Lakes lighthouses of Michigan.

Review:
I immensely enjoyed this short novella even though there wasn't much of a story and there were only three main characters. I felt like their love was a little rushed by the length of the book but I had to keep reminding myself that it was over a longer period than it seemed. I would have liked more references to God or scriptural references, but that didn't really take away from the story.
